About Tiranga Word Fill
Children hear about the national flag constantly around Independence Day and Republic Day, and absorb a mixture of accurate facts and half-remembered ones. This game puts the facts into sentences with a word missing, so a child has to know the detail rather than recognise the general shape of the statement.
What this game teaches
- The colours of the Indian flag and their order
- What each colour represents
- The Ashoka Chakra and its twenty-four spokes
- Who designed the flag and when it was adopted
- Reading a sentence closely enough to find the missing word
How to play
- A sentence about the flag appears with a blank.
- Choose the word that completes it correctly.
- Work through the set of sentences.
- Complete all of them to finish.
Before you start
A child should be able to read a simple sentence. The facts themselves are taught by the game, so prior knowledge is helpful but not required.
For teachers
Fits directly into Independence Day and Republic Day preparation, and gives the assembly facts a form children have to engage with rather than recite. The chakra details in particular are usually half-known and worth firming up.
For parents
Ask your child to tell you one thing about the flag they did not know before. It converts a quiz into a conversation, and what they choose tells you what actually landed.
