About Picture and Sound Quiz
Connecting three things - an image, a spoken word and a written word - is what early vocabulary learning actually consists of. This game presents all three together, so a child sees the object, hears its name and chooses its written form. Children learning in two languages benefit particularly, since the same picture anchors both.
What this game teaches
- Matching a picture to its written name
- Hearing correct pronunciation for each word
- Reading everyday nouns at sight
- Building vocabulary in English and Gujarati from the same images
- Distinguishing words that look similar in writing
How to play
- A picture appears with a listen button.
- Tap it to hear the word spoken.
- Choose the correct written word from four options.
- Ten questions complete a level.
Before you start
A child should recognise letters and be beginning to read words. The pictures carry the meaning, so this suits a child at the start of reading.
For teachers
Switching the language changes the vocabulary set while keeping the pictures, which makes it a neat way to work on the same concepts in both languages. Ask children to say the word before choosing, so recall precedes recognition.
For parents
Play the audio first and ask your child to say the word, then let them find it. Adding that step turns a matching exercise into vocabulary practice.
