About Animals Spin Wheel
Animals are the vocabulary children are most willing to practise, which makes them a useful vehicle for the harder underlying work of matching a spoken word to a written one. The wheel keeps the order unpredictable, so a child is recognising each animal rather than reciting a list they have memorised.
What this game teaches
- Animal names in English and Gujarati
- Matching a picture to its written name
- Hearing correct pronunciation in both languages
- Vocabulary retention through repeated randomised exposure
- Reading animal names at sight
How to play
- Tap Spin to turn the wheel.
- It stops on an animal.
- Listen to the name and read it on screen.
- Spin again as often as you like.
Before you start
No prior knowledge is needed. Children who cannot yet read will still learn the spoken vocabulary and picture association.
For teachers
A good whole-class warm-up on a projector, with the class naming the animal together before the audio plays. Switching languages between rounds makes the bilingual link explicit rather than incidental.
For parents
Ask your child to make the animal's sound or describe where it lives. Extending beyond the name is what turns vocabulary into knowledge.
