About Traffic Signal Game
Road safety is taught to children constantly and retained unevenly, partly because it usually arrives as a list of warnings. This game asks what to do at each light colour in specific situations - as a pedestrian, as a cyclist, near a school - so the rule is attached to a scenario rather than floating free.
What this game teaches
- What red, yellow and green mean at a traffic signal
- What a pedestrian should do at each colour
- That yellow means prepare to stop, not hurry through
- How to behave at a zebra crossing
- What to do when an emergency vehicle approaches
How to play
- A scenario appears with a traffic light showing one colour.
- Choose the correct action: stop, wait or go.
- Feedback confirms the right response.
- Three questions complete a level, across six levels.
Before you start
No prior knowledge is needed. This suits children who are beginning to walk to school or cross roads with an adult.
For teachers
Fits directly into road safety teaching and gives you scenarios to discuss rather than rules to recite. The emergency vehicle question in particular tends to surface misconceptions worth correcting.
For parents
Point out signals when you are out together and ask what the colour means before you cross. A child who answers correctly on a real street corner has learned it; one who only answers on screen may not have.
