About the worksheet generator

This tool builds printable arithmetic worksheets for column addition and subtraction. You choose the operation, how many digits each number should have, how many questions you want and where the numbering starts, and it produces a clean sheet ready to print.

Every worksheet comes with an answer key, so marking is quick and a parent helping at home does not have to work through the sums themselves. The sheet is laid out for A4 and prints without the site navigation.

Nothing is saved and no account is needed. Generate a sheet, print it, and generate a different one tomorrow — each set of questions is newly created, so children cannot memorise a fixed sheet.

Worksheets print without the site navigation, headers or menus, so what comes out of the printer is the sheet and nothing else. If you need a matching set for a whole class, generate once and photocopy - the questions are the same on every copy, which makes marking straightforward.

If you are setting work for mixed abilities, generate two sheets at different digit counts rather than one sheet everyone attempts. Children who finish comfortably learn more from a harder sheet than from more of the same, and children who are struggling need fewer questions rather than easier presentation of the same number.

Choosing a difficulty
Two-digit sums without carrying suit Class 1 and 2. Three-digit sums with carrying suit Class 3 and 4. Increase the digit count before increasing the number of questions.
Using it for homework
Generating two sheets with the same settings gives you a practice sheet and a test sheet at matched difficulty, which is more useful than reusing one sheet twice.
