About 1 to 50 Train Game
A line of train wagons is a number line a child can see, and filling the empty ones requires knowing not just the count but the position. Because the wagons stay in view, a child can reason from the numbers on either side rather than counting from one each time - which is the habit that makes number work efficient.
What this game teaches
- Writing numerals from 1 to 50 correctly
- Working out a missing number from its neighbours
- Understanding a number line as a fixed ordered sequence
- Counting on and counting back from any point
- Number formation and recognition together
How to play
- A train appears with numbers on some wagons and others empty.
- Work out which number belongs in each gap.
- Type the missing numbers into the wagons.
- Use the hint if you are stuck; ten levels are available.
Before you start
A child should be able to count to fifty aloud and recognise written numerals. Writing them accurately is part of what the game practises.
For teachers
Reversed digits - 21 written as 12 - are extremely common at this age and show up clearly here. Treat them as a formation issue rather than a counting one; the child usually knows the number and has written it backwards.
For parents
If your child is stuck on a gap, cover everything except the two neighbouring wagons. Narrowing the field makes the answer visible.
