About Math Addition in Gujarati
Children in Gujarati-medium schools meet Gujarati numerals in their textbooks and Arabic numerals almost everywhere else. Being fluent in one and hesitant in the other slows arithmetic down for reasons that have nothing to do with mathematics. This game practises addition using Gujarati digits so that reading the numeral becomes automatic rather than a translation step.
What this game teaches
- Reading Gujarati numerals ૦ to ૯ fluently
- Addition within ten, then twenty, then beyond
- Connecting Gujarati and Arabic numeral forms for the same value
- Mental addition without recounting from one
- Working comfortably in a Gujarati-language mathematics context
How to play
- An addition problem appears using Gujarati numerals.
- Work out the total.
- Enter or select the answer.
- Thirty levels increase the number range.
Before you start
A child should already be able to add small numbers. If the addition itself is new, learn it in whichever numeral system is more familiar first - doing both at once makes each harder.
For teachers
Useful in Gujarati-medium classrooms where the textbook uses Gujarati numerals but classroom practice often drifts into Arabic ones. A short daily round keeps numeral recognition current. It also suits English-medium children with Gujarati at home who need the numerals for family and community contexts.
For parents
If your child reads Gujarati numerals slowly, that is the thing to practise, not the addition. Ask them to read the numbers aloud before adding, and the sums will speed up on their own.
